The New York Working Families Party is fighting for YOU!

Imagine a New York state where you have guaranteed:
Free Childcare
Affordable Housing
Universal Healthcare
Protections for immigrant New Yorkers
We know exactly how to make all of this possible:
TAX THE ULTRA RICH AND INVEST IN WORKING FAMILIES!
The New York Working Families Guarantee
Working families are struggling to afford groceries, healthcare or rent, but billionaires and big corporations are paying less in taxes than we do. Working people are doing our part. We need leaders who are ready to make New York a place where immigrants are welcomed, and all of us have access to quality housing, healthcare, and childcare we can afford.
That’s why the New York Working Families Party is fighting for a Working Families Guarantee – to make New York State a place that guarantees.
CHILDCARE FOR EVERYONE
Access to FREE childcare for all families
- Universal Childcare Act (S.3415A Brisport/A.5899 Hevesi)
Provides funding for Universal childcare and establishes a task force to ensure quality implementation
Fair Pay for Childcare Workers
- Childcare Workforce Fund (S.5533 Brisport/A.492A Hevesi)
Establishes the permanent child care workforce living wage and pay equity fund to increase childcare workers’ wages
Affordable Housing
Protect & Expand Rent Stabilization
- Rent Emergency Stabilization for Tenants (REST) Act (S.4659A Kavanagh/A.4877A Shrestha)
Makes it easier for local municipalities outside of New York City to adopt rent stabilization policies
Fully Fund and Expand the Housing Access Voucher Program
- $50 million was allocated to enact a pilot Housing Access Voucher Program to provide housing vouchers for low-income families and individuals facing eviction and homelessness, including undocumented New Yorkers. We must make the program permanent and fully fund it at $250 million more to ensure families have the security of stable, affordable housing.
Lower utility bill costs
- NY Home Energy Affordable Transition (HEAT) Act (S.4158 Krueger/A.4870A Simon)
Aligns utility regulation with state climate justice and emission reduction targets; provides for a statewide affordable gas transition plan and utility home energy affordable transition programs - Cap & Invest Guardrails (S.4651A Parker/A.3975 Kelles)
Establishes an economy-wide program to set a cap on greenhouse gas emissions and regulates the sale or auction of allowances
Build More Affordable Green Housing
- Social Housing Development Authority (SHDA) (S.5674 Cleare/A.6265 Gallagher)
To create a new public authority tasked with building permanently affordable housing across the state, using union labor.
HEALTHCARE YOU CAN RELY ON
Keep our hospitals open
- Impose a moratorium on hospital closures and stop the reduction or elimination of “unprofitable” services such as maternity, psychiatric, pediatric and emergency services
Healthcare for all
- NY Health Act (S.3425 Rivera/A.1466 Paulin)
to expand coverage for all New York residents including immigrants and full-time employees to guarantee healthcare
A Welcoming State for Immigrant New Yorkers
Keep ICE out of our communities
- New York for All (S.2235 Gounardes/A.3506 Reyes)
prohibits New York’s state and local government agencies, including police and sheriffs, from colluding with ICE, disclosing sensitive information, and diverting personnel or other resources to further federal immigration enforcement
- Dignity Not Detention (S.316 Salazar/A.4181 Reyes)
Prohibit any person or entity in the state of New York from owning or operating immigrant detention facilities (i.e. state prisons, county jails, hospitals). Closes a loophole that has allowed immigrant New Yorkers to be prisoners for profit
- Mandating End of Lawless Tactics (MELT) Act (S.8462 Fahy/A.8908 Simone)
to prevent law enforcement from wearing masks or disguises while interacting with the public
Protect all immigrant families, regardless of status
- Access to Representation Act (A.270 Cruz)
to establish a right to universal representation, meaning anyone at risk of deportation who cannot afford a lawyer will be provided one
- Clemency Justice Act (S.394 Myrie/A.403 Solages)
to establish a more transparent and accessible system for processing, evaluating, and expediting clemency applications
AND HERE'S HOW THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY WILL GET IT DONE
Tax the Rich, Invest in Working Families
While working families are being crushed by the rising costs of basic necessities, NY’s billionaires and corporations will see $12 billion in annual tax breaks thanks to the Trump Administration. NY must tax the rich by passing:
- Progressive Income Tax (S.1622-Jackson/A.1281-Meeks)
to ensure NY’s top 5% of earners are paying their fair share - Corporate Tax (A.1971-Kelles, Shrestha)
to make companies doing business in NY with over $2.5 million in profits pay what they owe - Capital Gains Tax (S.1439-Rivera/A.676-Kim)
to close the federal tax gap and add a state-level surcharge on capital gains income over $500,000 per year - Heirs Tax (S.914-Brisport/A.2049-Solages)
to tax inheritances over $250,000
